West coast here we come!
The altitude of the ski village of State Line, Lake Tahoe was more than mom could handle. We all know that light headed giddy feeling right? No wonder, we had travelled from 5000 to 7000 and the south entrance to Yosemite is just shy of 10 000 feet above sea level. To get out of the mountains and to Monteray, many up and down hills and hairpin bends had to be negotiated. There were a few nail biting moments but driver did a great job.
As is common in these parts, bush and forest fires are rampant at this time of year. There are 4 currently burning. The only one that hampered our plans was the one that stopped us from visiting the Napa Valley. (Insert very sad face).
California is the fruit capital and these boards are dotted all over. It takes great restraints to not stop and buy all my friends avocados, artichokes and so on.
We arrived at Monterey just before sunset.
This sunset at the wharf made the long drive worth while. Here we found and English pub that served traditional fare. At this point it may be worth mentioning that our esteemed tour guide and Photog number 2 is TOTALLY fed up with FRIES. "Frhaas" as he says it. So he was happy to order bangers and mash.
Mom took a photo to celebrate.
And Monterey from the other side of the bay.
Driver and I have decided that it would be very easy to retire to Monterey.
